A southeast Kansas community will get up to $1 million to fund improvements in support a local foundry's expansion plans.
Kansas Governor Sam Brownback and other state officials were on hand Friday for the announcement in Coffeyville.
Officials said the funding will be used to improve streets near the Acme Foundry, a 110-year-old fixture in Coffeyville. Acme plans to build a 30,000-square-foot shipping and storage facility and add 50 jobs.
City officials said without the funds for street improvements, Acme Foundry would have been unable to expand its operations.“One of the functions of state government is to provide the support companies need to expand or locate in Kansas,” said Gov. Brownback.
Acme Foundry produces castings for various industries.
