A former Edison High School choir teacher on Friday pleaded guilty to sexual battery charges.

Bradley Morris, 45, received a split sentence, which means he will serve seven years in prison and five years on probation.

Documents say Morris abused students on the school campus and in a parking lot of a Staples store. Investigators said Morris would become friends with students and discuss things deemed inappropriate for teachers and students.

The parent of a former student found photos in texts and on Facebook that prompted the investigation in 2012, police said.

Morris resigned from Edison about two years before the criminal investigation.

Police also said Morris was known among students as having a reputation with the girls, and there were reports involving Morris that dated back to 2001, essentially the entire time he worked at Edison.
