The Tulsa Oilers faced off against students at Childers Middle School in a game of floor hockey, but the real winners were the thousands of people helped through the Broken Arrow Neighbors community outreach program.
The white team, called the Wreckers, won match. Tulsa Oilers' Kyle O'Kane stated that the kids had a lot of energy and competitiveness in them.
Childers Middle School teacher Sarah Martin stated that this was the school's culminating event for their food drive. They filled 140 crates full of food. The kids also brought in 88 frozen turkeys for the Thanksgiving baskets. This is the fourth year for the Dead Turkey Cup. So far, the school has donated over 8,000 food items, and more than 500 turkeys to Broken Arrow Neighbors.
The team stated they enjoyed hanging out with the kids, and that they enjoy having a bond with the Tulsa community. The team likes being able to go to schools and read to students. O'Kane also said, it's not just important to the kids, but important to their organization as well.
The Tulsa Oilers will be taking on the Wichita Thunder in Tulsa on Wednesday night at 7:05 p.m. Following that, they will take on the Brampton Beast Friday, December 12, at 7:35 p.m. During that game, they will be hosting a Teddy Bear Toss. When the Oilers score their first goal, everyone will throw their stuffed animals onto the ice. They will be collected, and donated to the Salvation Army.
