ORU women's basketball took on Southwestern Christian Tuesday at noon in the Mabee Center. The Golden Eagles dominated SCU, 88-49, moving to 4-4 on the season.
ORU got on the board first, with a layup from senior forward Bernadett Balla. By the 15:54 mark, ORU had taken a 9-1 lead over Southwestern Christian. The Golden Eagles set the tone and maintained their momentum for the remainder of the half. With 11:44 to go in the first, ORU's Jordan Doyle knocked down a three, increasing the Golden Eagles' lead 19-11. Following that, Jordan Gilbert hit a jumper, and then got a steal and dumped the fast break layup for another ORU basket. With just under five minutes to play in the half, ORU had extended their lead 30-14. By the end of the half, ORU led 39-22.
Going into the half, the Golden Eagles shot 41.7 percent from the field, 41.2 percent from the three-point line, and 50 percent from the free throw line. Southwestern Christian shot 26.9 percent from the field, 33.3 percent from the three-point line, and 57.1 percent from the free throw line.
ORU's Vicky McIntyre hit a jumper in the opening minutes of the second half. SCU's Maranda Janz answered that with a three, decreasing the Golden Eagles' lead to 16 points. With 11:20 on the clock, ORU's Faith Ihim hit a jumper advancing the score 60-34. The Golden Eagles would stay in control for the remainder of the game, finishing with a 39 point head over SCU, dropping them to 4-6 on the season.
Ending the game, ORU was 15-37 from the field, 5-14 from the three-point line, and 14-16 from the free throw line. SCU was 10-34 from the field, 2-9 from the three-point line, and 5-6 from the free throw line.
ORU will return to the floor Saturday, December 6, to take on Eastern Michigan. The game tips off at 2:00 p.m. in the Mabee Center.
