Wanda Pratt, mother of Oklahoma City Thunder star Kevin Durant, will speak at a Tulsa-area event for single mothers November 22, 2014.
When son Kevin was named the most valuable player in the NBA earlier this year, he spoke about the sacrifices his mother made to raise him and his brother, calling her the "real MVP."
Pratt said she used organized sports to help her sons - to instill Biblical, emotional and social values she believed in. Now she travels the country speaking to children and teens and sharing her experiences with single mothers and other women.
Machael Loghry, a single mother and school teacher in Jenks, said she went to a single mom holiday event in Oklahoma City last year and thought, "Why can't we do this in Tulsa?"
Now the Jingle Jangle Single Moms' Holiday Event is set for November 21 in Oklahoma City and November 22 in Tulsa.
The event, sponsored by Arise Ministries, is described as a Saturday night of fun and encouragement for single moms and their children.
It will be held at Newspring Family Church, 2907 West 108th Place South in Jenks. Their number is 918-299-9722 for more information.
Childcare is provided for children ages birth through 11 years old. The event is free for moms. There is a $5 per family fee for childcare for the Tulsa event.
Registration is required by Friday, November 14, or until the event limit is reached.
