Man Charged In 1997 Sallisaw Murder Extradited To Oklahoma

A Muldrow man accused of beating a a Sequoyah County man to death in 1997 has been extradited from Texas to the Sequoyah County jail.

A Muldrow man accused of beating a a Sequoyah County man to death in 1997 has been extradited from Texas to the Sequoyah County jail.

Sequoyah County Sheriff Ron Lockhart told KFSM TV, the CBS affiliate in Fort Smith, Ricky Dority, 56, was transferred from the Bureau of Federal Prisons facility in Texarkana to face a charge of first-degree murder in the death of Mitchell Nixon, 28.

Lockhart says Dority has spent the last 15 years in federal prison following a conviction on a weapons charge.

Sequoyah County court records show Dority was charged with first-degree murder on August 12, 2014.

Another man, Rex Robbins, 38, of Sallisaw was arrested in March 2013, in connection with the murder after the case was reopened by Sheriff Ron Lockhart. Court records show Robbins is also charged with first-degree murder.

Sheriff Lockhart says Mitchell Nixon was killed in October 1997 and his body was found lying on a road east of Sallisaw.

Court records show Ricky Dority has a court appearance set for October 24, 2014.
