A surprise discovery of a map tucked into a book at the Oklahoma State University library in Stillwater could pay out big.
The San Antonio Express-News reports the folded map of Texas in 1844 was recently found in a library book and is worth about $8,000.
John Phillips, director of the Oklahoma Digital Map Collection, which digitizes historic maps of Oklahoma and former Native American territory, said the map shows Texas when its territory extended into parts of Kansas and Colorado.
He told the newspaper, the map was created by the U.S. War Department in response to the formation of the Republic of Texas in 1836.
But it's a mystery how it ended up in the book.
