Eighty-seven Oklahoma veterans headed to Washington, D.C. Wednesday as part of an Honor Flight.

After leaving Tulsa International Airport on a special flight early Wednesday, the veterans will spend the day visiting a number of war memorials in the nation's capital before returning to Tulsa late Wednesday.

Forty-seven of the veterans served during the Korean War and 40 served during World War II.

This is the seventh Oklahoma Honor Flight trip this year from Tulsa.

The flights are free to veterans with a number of sponsors covering the cost.
