The Tulsa Drillers have gotten stellar pitching from former Oklahoma star Jon Gray all season. Wednesday night, Gray turned in another gem to lead the Drillers to a 2-0 over Northwest Arkansas.
Gray limited the Naturals to just one hit and two walks over 5.2 innings while striking out seven batters. His impressive outing inspired his fellow pitchers, Nate Striz and Cole White, who gave up just two hits and one walk while combining for six strikeouts over the remaining 3.1 innings. White earned his eighth save of the season.
The Drillers scored a run in the second inning and added another in the fourth inning on a Trevor Story solo home run off Northwest Arkansas starter Christian Binford, who took the loss despite a stellar outing of his own.
The Drillers ran into a bit of trouble in the bottom of the ninth inning, as a walk and a double put runners on second and third with no outs. But White was up to the challenge, striking out the next two batters before getting a groundout to end the threat and the game.
Tulsa returns home on Thursday to begin a four-game series with Arkansas at 7:05 p.m.
