Good morning!

The strong cold front moved across the area last evening bringing gusty north winds and a few showers and storms.  Some thunderstorm damage was reported in the Mayes county area.  The cooler air will continue to slide across the area this morning with lows in the 60s.  Afternoon highs will be around 80 today with northeast winds at 10 to 15 mph.  I anticipate eastern OK remaining dry for the day, but our rain and storm chances will be increasing Wednesday night into Thursday.  Some pockets of moderate to heavy rainfall will be possible Thursday.  Much cooler air compared to normal will be in the forecast for the middle of the week.

A major pattern change is underway.  A strong upper level low over the Hudson Bay area is allowing much cooler air to filter across part of southern Canada into part of the upper Midwest.  The cooler air will be felt as far south as Oklahoma for the next few days.

I anticipate Tuesday will remain dry for the eastern third of the state, but the pattern will support increasing rain and storm chances Wednesday and Thursday.  The NAM appears to be faster with the increasing rain chances for Wednesday across eastern OK.  We continue to favor more of a EURO-GFS solution bringing rain-storms into the western third of the state Wednesday, and then sliding eastward Wednesday night into Thursday morning to midday across portions of eastern OK.  The models do indicate the possibility of some multi-inch rainfall across southern OK northward to near the I-40 corridor.

The temps will remain cool compared to July standards.  We may be in the running to tie a few record lows by Wednesday and Thursday morning.  And we’ll have a chance to hit a record “minimum” daytime high Thursday.

We don’t anticipate moving back into the “warmer air” until Sunday or Monday.  There may also be a chance for a few showers or storms Saturday night into Sunday morning as the upper air flow from the northwest will be favorable for a small complex of storms brushing the area.

The official high in Tulsa yesterday was 92 recorded at 5:04pm.

The normal daily average high is 93 and the low is 73.

Our daily records include a high of 111 from 1936.  The daily record low is 54 from 1967.

You'll find me on Facebook and Twitter.

I'll be discussing the weather on numerous Radio Oklahoma News network affiliates across the state through the morning hours.

You'll also hear our forecast on Tulsa metro radio stations, including KMOD, The Twister, The Beat, and The buzz.   These stations are part of Clear Channel Communications.

Thanks for reading the Monday Morning weather discussion and blog.

Have a super great and safe day!
