The Tulsa Drillers raced out to a big lead and then held off a late rally to defeat the Arkansas Travelers on Wednesday night, 8-5.
The Drillers had an 8-1 lead after five innings before giving up four runs in the last four frames for the final margin.
David Bergin powered the offense for the Drillers, going 3-for-4 at the plate and scoring three runs with a two-run homer. Bergin’s blast to right field came as part of a four-run third inning that gave the Drillers a 6-0 lead.
Michael Brady took the loss for Arkansas after lasting just 2.2 innings while giving up eight hits and five earned runs. Carlos Hernandez picked up his second win of the year for Tulsa while Cole White got the last out of the game to pick up his fifth save of the season.
Both teams batted .500 with runners in scoring position and combined to leave 19 men on base.
Mike Bianucci hit a solo home run in the fourth inning for Arkansas and drove in three runs for the game.
The two teams are back in action at 7:05 p.m. Thursday at ONEOK Field.
