OHP Releases Names Of Trooper, Suspect Involved In Fatal Nowata County Shooting

The Oklahoma Highway Patrol has released the names of the trooper and suspect involved in a fatal Nowata County shooting Monday.

The OHP said 35-year-old Joshua Stand of Delaware, Oklahoma died after being shot by Trooper Jerrod Martin, 28. Martin has been a trooper for two years, the OHP said.

The OHP said the shooting happened about 9:45 Monday morning. Troopers said it started with a call to 911 about a man with a knife. They said Martin responded to the call and made contact with Stand. Troopers said once contact was made, a there was a brief chase that ended when Martin shot and killed Stand.

The Oklahoma Highway Patrol said Martin has been placed on paid administrative leave pending the outcome of an investigation.
