Tulsa-area residents can take the Polar Plunge to benefit Special Olympics Oklahoma on February 22.
The fund raiser has already started in some Oklahoma communities. The annual Oklahoma City Polar Plunge took place February 15 at White Water Bay.
Special Olympics Oklahoma Development Director Jennifer Lightle said participants can sign up the day of the plunge or register online.
"Last year, we had many people register on the morning of the plunge which makes my job so exciting," said Lightle.
"It's only $75 to register, and all of the money raised stays right here in Oklahoma to support programs for the 9,800 Special Olympics Oklahoma athletes."
Tulsa's will be held 11 a.m. at Big Splash with registration starting at 10 a.m.
Interested participants can also register to take the "plunge" February 22 in Tahlequah, Norman and Poteau.
The last Polar Plunge scheduled is March 1 in Pauls Valley.
The 2014 Annual Polar Plunge has a statewide goal to raise at least $275,000 for the cause.
Lightle said many participants come to the event in costumes to make the day more fun. Others have created personal web pages to collect donations from friends and relatives.
