A 5-year-old Fort Gibson boy died in a wreck on the slick Shawnee Bypass Thursday morning, according to the Muskogee Police Department.

MPD Cpl. Michael Mahan said the winter weather was a factor in the fatal crash.

The 2004 Chevrolet van, driven by 27-year-old Dehlila Spence, of Fort Gibson, was crossing a bridge near north Main Street and rolled down an embankment, ejecting her son, Charles Spence.

The boy was not wearing a restraint at the time of the crash and was seated in the back of the van, Mahan said.

Spence's other children, ages 7 and 2, were also in the vehicle, along with 35-year-old Alydia Shepherd. They all received minor injuries.
