Miami Man Dies From Injuries In Car Crash

A Miami man has died from injuries he sustained in a wreck last week, according to the Oklahoma Highway Patrol. Ed Williams Johnson Jr. died Saturday, October 19 in a Joplin hospital.

Johnson was driving westbound on County Road E30 in Ottawa County when troopers say a Chevy pickup failed to yield from a yield sign . The pickup, driven by Afton resident Gregory Leonard, hit Johnson's car on the driver's side.

The 23-year-old Johnson was pinned in the vehicle for about 20 minutes. He was freed by Quapaw Tribal Firefighters.

A juvenile passenger in his car was also injured but survived the wreck. Leonard, 53, was treated and released for an arm injury.
