The Oklahoma Department of Transportation says it has shifted several lanes of I-44 near Lewis because of a widening project.
On Sunday, eastbound traffic on I-44 shifted to a new section of pavement at Lewis.
ODOT says westbound traffic will be moved to new lanes Monday morning.
ODOT says this is the third and final phase of the I-44 widening project from Yale to Riverside Drive which has been underway since 2009.
before the project could begin in 2009, the state paid $88,000 a piece to have 45 houses cleared along the busy interstate highway. The entire project is expected to be finished later this year.
More than 80,000 vehicles travel on I-44 through Tulsa each day. State officials say this stretch of I-44 was built in the 1950s and it's the oldest section of interstate highway in the state.
