A Tulsa builder is set to begin construction this month on the Wyandotte Nation's new $1.2 million community center.
Tribal officials broke ground July 12 on the 7,184 square foot facility in Ottawa County.
"This Community Center is going to be a great addition for all of our citizens who live here," said Wyandotte Nation Chief Billy Friend.
Friend says the center will provide space for a senior center, activity center, kitchen and a safe room.
Officials say the safe room will have enough space to hold around 120 people in the event of adverse weather conditions.
Builders Unlimited Inc. previous projects include the Broken Arrow Historical Museum and the Choctaw Nation Headstart offices in Wilburton.
