The Oklahoma state medical examiner's officer has identified the body of a man found in Sallisaw Creek last month.

The body of 53-year-old Timothy Wade of Sequoyah County was discovered on June 27.

Sheriff Ron Lockhart tells Fort Smith, Ark., television station KHBS that Ward had been reported missing on July 2.

Sequoyah County deputies recovered the body June 27 in Sallisaw Creek near the mouth of the Arkansas River. Lockhart says investigators believe the body had been in the creek for at least a week.

The sheriff says investigators are working to determine how Ward ended up at the creek and where his personal items, including his shoes and wallet, were left.
