More than 40 Oklahoma Baptist disaster relief team volunteers have been deployed to the Mayes County community of Spavinaw.
The volunteers arrived a day after a tornado scoured a destructive path through the community damaging homes and the roof of the town's school.
"After any local or nationwide disaster, the Oklahoma Baptist disaster relief team is always on the lookout for ways we can help affected communities," said Sam Porter, BGCO disaster relief state director. "In the case of the recent Oklahoma storms, Spavinaw showed the most need with severe weather leaving many residents with no electricity, food or shelter and many damaged homes from fallen trees."
Porter says three BGCO chainsaw teams, a mobile feeding unit and an assessment team were sent to the community Friday.
