A Grove woman is dead after a 1999 Mitsubishi Spyder she was riding in crashed on Scenic Highway 412 in Mayes County Friday afternoon.

The Oklahoma Highway Patrol says the crash occurred at 4:46 p.m. just east of Locust Grove.

Frankie Smith, 65, was a passenger in a westbound car driven by Donald Smith, 67, when troopers say he failed to negotiate a curve, lost control and was struck by an eastbound pickup truck.

In an OHP accident report, troopers say Smith was driving at an unsafe speed on a wet road at the time of the crash.

Donald Smith was taken to a Tulsa hospital and is listed in fair condition at last report.  The driver of the pickup truck, Ronald Merrel, 61, of Locust Grove was also taken to a Tulsa hospital.  No word on his condition.
