Five players scored goals for the 20th-ranked Tulsa men's soccer team to lead the Golden Hurricane to a 5-2 victory against Nebraska Omaha on Monday night at the Hurricane Soccer and Track Stadium. TU moved to 8-4 on the season, while Omaha fell to 4-6-1 overall.
Omaha struck first when Chava Garcia scored, striking one into the upper right corner from 25 yards out off an assist from Logan Mendez at the 12:37 mark.
Then Cristian Mata evened the score in the 33rd minute as he knocked in a cross from four yards out from Matt Boullt. Bryce Follensbee then scored the go-ahead goal in the 38th minute to give TU a 2-1 lead at the break.
Tulsa controlled the second half, starting when Tony Rocha drilled in his first goal of the season from 35 yards out up the middle off a pass from Cristian at the 62:26 mark, and two minutes later Omar Mata scored on a penalty kick to make it 4-1.
Omaha's Mendez tallied a goal off a rebound attempt by Devin Diego in the 82nd minute for UNO's second goal on the night but TU answered when Jon Wright scored his first goal on the year with just 57 seconds remaining off a cross from Follensbee for the final score.
Cristian concluded the night with a team-best seven shots, five of which were on goal, one goal and two assists. Follensbee added four shots, while Akeil Barrett and Rocha had three attempts. Mark Pais logged all 90 minutes in goal and recorded three saves for 43 on the year.
The Golden Hurricane had a 25-8 lead in shots, including a 13-5 advantage in shots on goal, while the Mavericks had a 5-3 lead in corner kicks.
Tulsa will return to action against Memphis on the road on Saturday at 7 p.m.
