One night after it appeared the Drillers' offense was finding its stride in a 9-3 victory, a lot of that optimism disappeared along with the Drillers' bats.
Tulsa got slammed 7-1 by the Northwest Arkansas Naturals on Tuesday at ONEOK Field, ending a tough July for the Drillers. Tulsa went 14-16 in July and has lost five of its past six games during a major offensive slump.
Tulsa recorded just six hits in Tuesday's loss against 14 for the Naturals. The Drillers' lone run came in the bottom of the eighth inning when second baseman Angelys Nina hit a ground ball single to right field to score Jimmy Cesario. Right fielder Mike Zuanich was the only Driller to record more than one hit on the night, going 2-for-4 at the plate.
Tulsa righty Parker Frazier dropped to 4-12 on the season after surrendering 11 hits and seven runs in six innings on the mound. He struck out seven NW Arkansas batters. The Naturals' Sugar Ray Marimon picked up the win after throwing seven scoreless innings and giving up just three hits.
The two teams face off again on Wednesday in Tulsa at 7:05 p.m.
