The Oral Roberts Golden Eagles kicked off their regular-season finale series Thursday with a 5-1 win over the North Dakota State Bison.
Drew Bowen was pivotal in the big win for the Golden Eagles, giving up just one earned run on eight this and striking out five in his 7.1 innings of service. His only earned run came in the top of the first on an RBI single from Zach Wentz to score Tim Colwell.
However, Oral Roberts responded almost immediately, and a Bennett Pickar sacrifice fly brought Jared Schlehuber home to tie the game 1-1.
At that point, Jose Trevino took over offensively for the Golden Eagles, driving in the next three runs. In the bottom of the third, a single to center field brought Cam Schiller home, followed by a solo home run, and then yet another RBI single to second base to push the lead to 4-1 in the bottom of the sixth.
That ended the day for John Straka, giving up five earned runs on 10 hits in his 6.2 innings of service for North Dakota State.
Oral Roberts will continue its four-game series with a doubleheader Saturday, at 2 p.m. Saturday against the Bison.
