Oral Roberts' Gonzales Nabs Weekly Conference Honor

ORU right hander Alex Gonzales had been named the Summit League's Pitcher of the Week after a big performance against No. 12 Cal State Fullerton.

Against the Titans, the sophomore went 7.2 innings with six strikeouts and allowed only one walk. Gonzales gave up five hits, but allowed no runs in the 3-0 victory that helped him to 2-1 on the season.

The weekly award is the fifth of Gonzales career as he now has a 1.40 ERA with 16 strikeouts in 25.2 innings on the mound.

The victory over the ranked Titans was ORU's first victory over a ranked opponent since last season's win over No. 10 TCU in the NCAA Regionals.

In late February, Gonzalez suffered a back injury causing him to miss several starts.

The Golden Eagles return to the diamond Tuesday on the road against Oklahoma at 6:30 p.m. in Norman.
