Tulsa's trash board makes its biggest decision - giving the trash hauling contract to startup company New Solutions. The contract is worth more than $120 million.
Tulsa's trash board picked a big national company to supply Tulsa's trash carts and a small local company for the most important contract of all - the contract to pick up all the trash for the next 10 years.
Years of planning and meetings came down to a quick vote - the TARE board settled on New Solutions for the hauling contract.
It's a new company. "New" stands for Northeast Waste Solutions, owned by seven independent Tulsa-area trash haulers.
"We're just glad it went the way it did," said Jason Kannady, president of New Solutions. We've got a lot of hard work in it and I think it paid off."

"They were the lowest and best bid," said TARE Board Chairperson Cheryl Cohenour. "That allows us to keep the rates as low as possible."
The board decided to buy carts like this one - called a Toter. The city will need 249,000 of them to handle trash and recycling.
"We've made more cans than anybody else, and they last longer than anybody else. You guys got a great deal: great product, great price," said Donald Siptak of Toter.
With the biggest decisions behind them the TARE board can now get into the details of the trash service - like what color all those trash carts will be.
