Free Eagle Tours Offered By Sequoyah National Wildlife Refuge

You can get up and close and personal with bald eagles, thanks to the Sequoyah National Wildlife Refuge.

The Refuge is offering free bald eagle tours on the following dates:

• February 4, 11, 18, 25
• March 3

Anyone interested in participating should be at the Refuge headquarters located near Vian, Oklahoma by 9 a.m. on any of those Saturdays.  No reservations are needed.

Tours begin with the Refuge's live eagle cams being broadcast on a smartboard.  They're the same cameras featured on NewsOn6.com.  The cameras are a joint project with the Sutton Avian Research Center.

The group then boards the Refuge tour bus to view a number of eagle nests near the tour road.

"We usually see a number of other eagles hunting throughout the refuge along with other wildlife such as ducks, geese, deer and hawks," said Chad Ford, Visitor Services Specialist with Sequoyah National Wildlife Refuge.

Tours are typically finished by noon and there is no charge for participating. 

Driving directions to the Refuge:

The Refuge is approximately 30 miles from the Oklahoma/Arkansas line on I-40. Take the Vian exit (297) and travel south approximately 3 miles and follow the signs to the headquarters.
