A Coweta airman lost his battle with Lou Gehrig's disease. Friends tell News On 6 Master Sergeant Thomas Garrett passed away Thursday.
Garrett served for 22 years in the Air National Guard, serving several tours in the Middle East, including Iraq.
After he returned home, he was diagnosed with Lou Gehrig's disease which caused him to lose his ability to speak and made it difficult for him to take care of himself.
News On 6 followed his family as they petitioned veterans' groups for help to get the family into a home that's handicap accessible.
Just last year, the Tulsa Shock and the Folds of Honor Foundation presented his four daughters with college scholarships.
