As has been mentioned in the past, the more western counties and the more SE counties of the state remain in the most serious drought conditions despite some short term improvement that the rest of us received last week. From the map on the right, it is apparent that the good folks in the SE corner have a decent shot at putting a significant dent in their drought situation.
A weak cool front has moved into SE OK this afternoon where it is stalling out, will drift back north by Tuesday morning, and then receive a stronger push to the south later Tuesday. As this boundary bounces around, the deeper moisture and better support aloft will also be located over the more E and SE counties providing them with a much better chance at additional rainfall. This will be during the overnight hours and through the day on Tuesday before ending Tuesday night. There may even be some thunder down there.
There will also be a rather tight W-E gradient of rainfall with rain likely for the more E and SE counties but tapering off quickly to the west. Here in the immediate Tulsa area, we expect to be on the western fringe of most of the rain, so there will be at least a chance of some light rain or showers through Tuesday.
A brief cool-down for Wed & Thu will be followed by a brief warming trend for Fri & Sat. Another frontal boundary will be arriving on Sunday and will likely hang around into the early part of next week. Since this boundary will be more or less parallel to the wind flow aloft, we expect it to meander around for a day or two. In fact, it looks like next week could turn out to be rather unsettled with the potential for putting another dent into the drought situation.
In the meantime, stay tuned and check back for updates.
