Tulsa Students Take Part In Japan's Health And Sport Day

TULSA, Oklahoma -- Students at Edison Junior High got a break from the books Monday, but not because it was Columbus day. It's because of a national holiday in Japan that focuses on promoting physical activity.

Students and teachers dressed in Samurai headbands and got a chance to learn about another culture by participating in events like relay races and karate demonstrations.

"Its a chance for us to incorporate Japan, a county that we're studying and their culture, along with just promoting health and sports and fitness in our own students," said Edison teacher Beth Humphrey.

This is the second year Edison had participated in Japan's Health and Sports Day. Japan started the event after the Olympics were held there in 1964.
