OWASSO, Oklahoma – The first day of the Regional tournament ended with a bang for Union Wednesday, thanks to Jordan Climpson. With the score tied at five in the bottom of the eighth, Climpson, who was down to his last strike, lifted a long drive over the center field fence for the walk-off win.
The scoring started in the first inning with Enid plating one in the top of the frame and Union bringing three across in the bottom of the inning. From the second through the sixth inning, Enid pitcher Lawson King held the Skins to just one run. In that span, the Plainsmen were able to score four runs and took a 5-4 lead into the bottom of the seventh. On Union’s last chance, with two outs and two strikes against him, Jacob Cremers hit a seeing-eye single up the middle that scored Brandon Cuddy from second. That would send the game to the eighth inning where Climpson would deliver the walk-off blow.
Union will next play at Owasso Thursday at 4:30 pm. That game will be a rematch of last year’s state title game (won by Union). Last Friday at ONEOK Field, Owasso beat Union 6-3.
