OKLAHOMA CITY – The Vinita Lady Hornets narrowly escaped the threatening Anadarko Lady Warrriors, 50-43, to advance to the semifinals.
In a game that came down to the wire, the fourth quarter allowed the Lady Hornets to pull ahead and fight to maintain their lead.
The game was neck-and-neck throughout the first three quarters. Tied at 21 by half, both teams seemed to come out even more energized following the halftime break.
Caitlyn Spurgeon helped the Lady Hornets pull away in the third, hitting a fade away jumper and a layup in two consecutive possessions to take a 10-point lead. She finished the game with 22 for Vinita.
The Lady Warriors battled back to within six points in the fourth, bringing the score to 39-33 with just 3:48 left in the game.
Anadarko continued to pressure, inching to within three with just :55 left. But a couple of fouls led the Lady Hornets to the free throw line, which is where Vinita’s Morgan Grammer would seal the win. She ended the game with 10.
Anadarko’s offensive weight was carried in large part to Lakota Beatty, who finished the only Lady Warrior in double digits with 23 points.
The Vinita Lady Hornets notched their 20th consecutive win and advance to the semifinals.
