CLAREMORE, Oklahoma -- Claremore-Sequoyah is marching through this season, winning games but wearing a target on their backs.

The Eagles are currently 5-0 heading into week 6, and are looking to face a very talented Berryhill team (3-2).

“I know what Berryhill is going to bring to the table. They’re a good, hard-nosed kids, they’re well-coached,” said the Eagles’ head coach Jody Iams. “It’s going to be a good, hard-hitting game and we’re looking forward to it.”

The Berryhill Chiefs started their season with a tough schedule, only losing to the reigning 3A and 4A state champions Cascia Hall and Glenpool.

The Eagles are not discounting Berryhill just because it has lost some touch matchups.

“When you get to the upper echelon of the 3A teams, I think Berryhill’s always one of them,” Iams said. “They’re going to be tough.”

Coach Iams knows his team will have to focus on limiting the Chiefs’ skill players and making tackles consistently throughout the game.

“We’re going to have to tackle well and really pursue the ball,” Iams said.

Claremore-Sequoyah is ready for the tough matchup and looks forward to improving its record and remaining undefeated.

“It’s everybody else’s Super Bowl when they play us,” Iams said. “That’s part of having a successful program.”

The Claremore-Sequoyah Eagles face the Berryhill Chiefs 7 p.m. Friday night at home.

“Our goal is to win a district championship and we need to win this game.”
