TULSA, Oklahoma -- The westbound I-244 bridge over the Arkansas River in Tulsa will be closed to traffic sometime this weekend.

With the closure, all westbound traffic will be shifting to the eastbound bridge, causing east and westbound traffic to be narrowed to 2 lanes in each direction on the eastbound bridge.

The westbound I-244 is scheduled to be demolished to make way for a multi-modal bridge.

Construction of the new bridge is expected to take two years.

The Oklahoma Department of Transportation says the southbound U.S. Highway 75 off-ramp to westbound I-244 will remain closed and westbound U.S. Highway 64, state Highway 51 off-ramp to eastbound I-244 will remain closed too.

Both of those ramps were closed on May 16, 2011.

ODOT says motorists should expect delays especially during peak traffic times.

During the next 2 years, motorists can check out the ODOT's website for the latest updates on the bridge replacement project.
