I’m sure they covered it again Friday, just as they’ve gone over it time and time again in a surprisingly difficult season, but as I listened to sports talk radio in Austin I didn’t hear very much discussion of what ails the Longhorns. It’s as if the whole anger-denial-bargaining-depression thing is deep in the process. There was the odd comment or two about how beating OSU would be good, but clearly the focus has moved on to next fall, or basketball.
Texas will start 3 freshmen on the offensive line against the Cowboys. There will be at least two other freshmen in the defensive secondary rotation. Starting tailback Tre Newton is out. Freshman stud defensive end Jackson Jeffcoat is questionable with an ankle issue.
There’s some belief that Texas will start freshman Case McCoy, Colt’s younger brother at quarterback instead of Garrett Gilbert. Not sure about that one but at this point nothing should surprise OSU fans.
Just adding all this up might end with a convincing victory for the Cowboys, but nothing has ever come easy for OSU in Austin. The team plane fought through a storm not long before landing, and that landing was said to feel a bit sideways. Surely not an omen, not with all these things stacked against the home team.
Besides, it could be that the Cowboys got the tough part of the trip out of the way early- before the kickoff- but don’t count on it.

May 26th, 2011
