STILLWATER, Okla. – If OSU wanted to get the game over with quickly, it was only hurting itself.
The Cowboys routed Arkansas-Pine Bluff in seven innings on Tuesday night, but still took a while to do so due to a 19-3 final margin.
Oklahoma State started off slow and steady, notching one run in each of the first two innings.
In the third, however, the game started to get a little more lopsided as first baseman Zach Johnson started with a solo homer, then third baseman Mark Ginther notched a three-run home run to put OSU up 6-0.
The Golden Lions (6-13) scored two of their own in the top of the fourth, but OSU responded with its most prolific inning of the season offensively.
The Cowboys achieved the equivalent of hitting for the cycle as a team in the bottom of the fourth, racking up two singles, two doubles, two triples and a home run.
OSU added on four more in the next inning for good measure.
The Cowboys had 15 hits on the day, but also allowed 11 despite the 16-run margin of victory.
Several Cowboys put up some big stats on the game.
Luis Uribe had five RBIs, and Dane Philips and Zach Johnson had four each. Philips tied a school record with two triples in the game.
Eight Oklahoma State players scored at least two runs in the game.
Hunter Herrera picked up the win for OSU (15-5) but still allowed eight hits and two earned runs.
Arkansas-Pine Bluff pitcher Brad Tarter had a rough day, getting the loss and giving up 10 earned runs on nine hits in 3.1 innings.
OSU will hit the field again in Stillwater on Wednesday night, taking on Washington at 6:30 p.m.
