TULSA, Oklahoma – The Oral Roberts Golden Eagles set a school scoring record on Sunday with a 120-87 rout of North Texas at the Mabee Center.
As usual, guard Kevi Luper led ORU with 36 points, including a 6-of-6 mark from 3-point range.
ORU’s previous record was 119 points, scored in a win against Bacone on Nov. 29, 2003.
It was also the highest point total against a Division I opponent since Feb. 3 when ORU put up 114 against IUPUI.
North Texas stunned the Golden Eagles out of the gate, jumping out to a 7-0 lead less than two minutes into the game.
But ORU responded with a 23-7 run to take over the game early and didn’t look back. The Golden Eagles led 54-38 at halftime and led by as many as 34 several times in the second half.
Several other Oral Roberts players put up some big numbers in the blowout. Forward Jordan Pyle added 20 points and a career-high 15 rebounds. Jaci Bingham, Priscila Cergol and Georgia Jones all scored in double digits for the Golden Eagles.
ORU (2-0) will face its toughest test of the young season on Tuesday as it hosts Tulsa at 7:05 p.m.
