TULSA, Oklahoma -- The Springfield Cardinals pounded out 12 hits in a 12-9 win over Tulsa Saturday. The two teams combined to hit six home runs.
Both teams started off hot. Tulsa opened the game with four runs in the first inning. Springfield responded with four scores in the bottom of the first.
Ryan Harvey and Willin Rosario homered in the second and third innings, respectively, to put the Drillers on top 6-4.
Curt Smith responded with a solo home run in the bottom of the third to cut the Cardinals deficit to 6-5.
Rosario hit another solo homer in the seventh to give Tulsa a one run lead. He finished two-for-four with three RBIS. However, Springfield would explode in the bottom half of the inning.
The Cardinals scored five runs, capped by a Jose Garcia two-run single. Even though Springfield led 11-7 the Drillers did not go away.
Bronson Sardinha hit a two-run homer with two outs in the top of the eighth to bring Tulsa to within two runs. But Tony Cruz would add an insurance run with a solo homer in the bottom of the inning.
Ching Lung Lo (1-3) was tagged with the loss after giving up five earned runs in 1.1 innings of relief.
Fransico Samuel (1-0) allowed two earned runs in 1.2 innings but gained the win.
The two teams continue their series at 6:10 p.m. Sunday.
