NORMAN, Oklahoma – The No. 15 Oklahoma Sooners jumped out to an early lead and coasted to a 9-1 win over Houston Baptist Wednesday.

The Sooners (13-1) scored four runs in their first three innings and doubled their score in the fifth to build their insurmountable lead.

OU recorded the game’s first run in the bottom of the first inning when Garrett Buechele scored from first base on a double by Ross Hubbard. Houston Baptist tied the game with a home run by Beau Warren in the top of the second, but it didn’t take long for OU to pull away.

Max White hit a two-run home run in the bottom of the second and Cameron Seitzer hit an RBI single in the third to extend the Sooners’ lead to 4-1. They then scored four more runs in the fifth inning – three of them coming on sacrifices or fielder’s choices – to take an 8-1 lead, and Houston Baptist never made it a game again.

OU got even production from its entire lineup, with seven different players recording an RBI. White and Seitzer each finished with two RBI, the only Sooners to drive in more than one run.

Michael Rocha (2-0) turned in a strong starting pitching performance for the Sooners, with Warren’s homer the only hit he gave up in five innings of work. Drew Verhagen and Jarrett Semler combined to surrender four hits and strike out four in the final four innings of the game.

The Sooners have now won eight consecutive games since losing their first game of the season to Jacksonville on Feb. 27. They will try to keep their streak going with three games in Corpus Christi, Texas, as part of the Whataburger Classic. They will start against Mississippi State at 2 p.m. Friday.
