TULSA, Oklahoma -- Tulsa never trailed in its 76-61 victory over Southern Mississippi Thursday. The Golden Hurricane has now won five straight.
Taleya Mayberry had a game-high 27 points, and Larrissa Williams added 22.
Tulsa (12-13, 6-8) scored the first seven points of the game and never looked back. The Golden Eagles (9-18, 5-9) were able to get as close as 11-6 but the Hurricane went on a 10-2 run to create permanent distance. TU took a 39-18 lead into halftime.
USM shot just 25 percent in the first half, while Tulsa connected 15 of its 32 attempts (46 percent) from the floor.
It was a similar story in the second half. TU kept the pressure on by opening with a quick 9-5 spurt to stretch its lead to 25 points. The Golden Eagles never came closer than 12 points in the second half.
Pauline Love led USM with 24 points and 12 rebounds.
The Golden Hurricane returns to the Reynolds Center Saturday to face Central Florida at 2 p.m.
