WACO, Texas – The Oral Roberts women’s basketball team had no answer for Baylor’s Brittney Griner and came away with a 101-76 loss to the Lady Bears Wednesday.
Griner finished with 34 points, 13 rebounds and 11 blocks and three other Lady Bears finished with more than 15 points. Morghan Medlock scored 16, while Melissa Jones and Ashley Field each added 15.
Wednesday’s game marked the third time this season the explosive Baylor offense has scored more than 100 points in a game, but ORU is the first team this year to score more than 70 points against the Bears.
The Golden Eagles (7-3) held a 6-2 lead three minutes into the game, but Baylor (10-1) quickly erased that with a 17-3 run and built a lead it did not give up for the rest of the night.
The Lady Bears carried a 45-28 lead into halftime, but Oral Roberts did not give up in the second half. The Golden Eagles traded baskets with Baylor for most of the half and nearly outscored the Bears in the half until they began sinking several late free throws.
Freshman Kevi Luper continued her strong play this season with a 32-point performance for ORU. Jaci Bigham scored 11 points, while Georgia Jones and Janae Voelker each added 10.
The loss ends Oral Roberts’ three-game winning streak, but the Golden Eagles will try to get back in the win column when they return home to play Missouri State at 12:05 p.m.
