TURPIN, Okla. (AP) -- Funeral services are scheduled for Independence Day for a Turpin soldier who was killed in Afghanistan.
Services for Army Spc. Jared Plunk are set for 2 p.m. Sunday at the Turpin High School Auditorium. The 27-year-old will be buried at the Liberal City Cemetery in Liberal, Kan.
Plunk and fellow Spc. Blair Thompson, of Rome, N.Y., were killed June 25 when their mounted patrol was attacked in the Konar province. The men were assigned to 1st Battalion, 327th Infantry Regiment, 1st Brigade Combat Team, 101st Airborne Division out of Fort Campbell, Ky.
Plunk is survived by his wife, Lindsay Plunk and their sons, Kason Plunk and Noah Fisher, all of Clarksville, Tenn.; his mother, Glenda Willard and her husband Gerald of Maryville, Tenn.; two brothers and two sisters.
