TULSA, OK -- An accused child molester resigned from Tulsa Public Schools Tuesday. Robert Yerton handed in his letter of resignation, and the school board voted unanimously to accept it.
The former Skelly Elementary Assistant Principal already faces three counts of lewd molestation, and two counts of child sexual abuse. Now, he's officially out of a job.
It took less than a minute for the Tulsa Public School Board of Education to seal Robert Yerton's fate with the district Tuesday night.
Tulsa Public Schools suspended, and began termination proceedings against Yerton following his arrest in May. But he submitted his letter of resignation before the process was complete.
In it, he says his accusers include 'a child with greedy relatives,' and 'an adult who believes witchcraft.'
He later says he 'could go on for pages professing his innocence,' but his position at the school is compromised 'regardless of the outcome at the courthouse.'
Yerton was arrested in May while still serving as the assistant principal at Skelly Elementary. He was originally accused of molesting three boys; a six-year-old Skelly student, a relative who is now 18, and another boy in 1996 while working at Disney Elementary.
Later in May, investigators claim a fourth person came forward and claimed that Yerton molested him at Disney in 2001. He was seven years old at the time.
Yerton's resignation ends his 17 year-tenure with Tulsa Public Schools.
