TULSA, OK -- Demolition work began this week on the old westbound I-44 bridge at the Darlington Avenue junction in Tulsa.
The Oklahoma Department of Transportation says crews were expected to have a large portion of the old bridge down by Tuesday evening.
Westbound I-44 traffic was shifted onto a diversion road just to the north of this bridge in late March.

Westbound I-44 traffic, along with both the eastbound I-44 traffic and eastbound I-44 bridge, are not expected to be affected by this work.
ODOT says this project is not part of the overall I-44 Riverside Drive to Yale Avenue widening project; however it is part of the overall plan to widen the I-44 corridor in Tulsa.
The cost of the project is $11 million.
I-44 will be widened from four lanes to six and the two bridges at Darlington will be replaced.
