Tulsa Man Arrested For Murder After Getting Shot In Botched Armed Robbery

TULSA, OK – Tulsa Police say they've arrested a man for murder after a botched robbery led to him and his accomplice being shot by their intended victim with their own gun.

According to police, 21-year-old Kendall Ladan Roland and 25-year-old Shawn Huber went to a residence in the 600 block of East 42nd Street North on January 3rd with the intent to commit armed robbery.

The witnesses/victims of the armed robbery say the two men knocked on the door and then forced their way inside and demanded money at gunpoint.

According to police reports, one of the victims wrestled a revolver away from Shawn Huber and shot both men.

Police responded to two calls shortly after the incident.  Shawn Huber was found wounded in the 4600 block of North Cincinnati and later died at a hospital. Kendall Roland was found at the 500 block of E 42nd street with a gunshot wound to his arm.

Roland told police Huber and he were walking when someone in a vehicle opened fire on them both.  Police say Roland has since admitted to them that he lied and was inside the residence when the shooting occurred.

Police say multiple witnesses, who claim to be close to Huber and Roland, told them that Huber and Roland went to the house with the intent of using a firearm to rob the occupants.

Roland was arrested for murder under Title 21 section 701.7 B which states that an individual can be charged with murder if that murder is a result of a violent crime even if the individual did not commit the actual act.


Title 21 section 701.7 B states:

A person also commits the crime of murder in the first degree, regardless of malice, when that person or any other person takes the life of a human being during, or if the death of a human being results from, the commission or attempted commission of murder of another person, shooting or discharge of a firearm or crossbow with intent to kill, intentional discharge of a firearm or other deadly weapon into any dwelling or building as provided in Section 1289.17A of this title, forcible rape, robbery with a dangerous weapon, kidnapping, escape from lawful custody, eluding an officer, first degree burglary, first degree arson, unlawful distributing or dispensing of controlled dangerous substances, or trafficking in illegal drugs.
