TULSA, OK -- A major Tulsa highway was closed for about three hours Friday night after a semi truck loaded with electronics overturned and spilled its load of merchandise.
Both eastbound lanes of U.S. Interstate 44 at Elwood were closed following the wreck that happened at about 10:45 p.m.
The truck driver told the Oklahoma Highway Patrol he was reaching behind his seat for something then looked back at the road and found he had drifted to the shoulder. The driver then overcorrected and took out a traffic sign. The semi trailer truck overturned and spilled both diesel fuel and boxes of electronic products on the highway.
State troopers and Tulsa police worked the accident while Tulsa Fire HazMat crews came to clean up the fuel spill. Traffic was routed along a nearby access road until one lane was opened at about 2:25 a.m. Saturday.
Both lanes were not open until about 6:25 a.m.
There were no injuries, and no other vehicles were involved.
