SKIATOOK, OK -- Tulsa firefighters are better prepared to handle a water rescue. They brushed up on training at Skiatook Lake on Friday. They spent the day practicing rescue techniques.
Water rescues can be dangerous, even deadly for firefighters, so trainers say it's important to keep their skills up-to-date.
"Staying familiar with the equipment, staying familiar with rescue techniques, boat operations, it's really good," said Tulsa Fire Captain Greta Hurt.
TFD says most of their rescues happen on open water like lakes and rivers, not swimming pools.
