TULSA, OK -- An explosion in a Tulsa apartment complex was apparently caused by the "improper use of a Super X Emergency Tire Inflator," according to an investigation by Captain Scott Rutherford of the Tulsa Fire Department.

The explosion took place at about 5:50 p.m. Thursday at the Westminster Apartments in the 4800 block of S. 78th E. Avenue.

The blast caused an estimated $20,000 in damage.

Two men were in the apartment at the time of the explosion. Tulsa Fire says both were treated and released at the scene.

"There will be further tests done to determine if this was the cause, but indications are pointing to the occupants of the apartment having used the tire inflator to inflate/repair a leaking air mattress," said department spokesperson Bill French.
