CLAREMORE, OK -- A former employee of the Rogers County Sheriff's Office has been arrested and charged with sexual battery of a courthouse employee.
Gary C. Handley, 42, of Broken Arrow, turned himself into the Rogers County Jail Wednesday morning. He was booked with one count of sexual battery then released on $10,000 bond.
"This is disheartening," said Sheriff Scott Walton. "This kind of behavior is completely unacceptable from any agent of law enforcement, and it absolutely will not stand inside the Rogers County Sheriff's Office. "
The charges stem from allegations of inappropriate touching of a female courthouse employee. The allegations arose when the victim contacted the Sheriff's Office to report the activity.
The Sheriff's Office investigated the claim and forwarded the results of their investigation to the Rogers County District Attorney's Office for final determination of criminal charges. Handley turned himself in accompanied by his attorney.
A warrant was issued for Handley's arrest on Aug. 3 by Judge Erin O'Quinn. His next court date is scheduled for Sept. 23. The warrant affidavit was issued by Mayes County, according to the Rogers County Sheriff's office.
