Fayetteville, Ark. -- The 34th-ranked Tulsa women's tennis team swept past Saint Louis 7-0 on Saturday afternoon at the Dills Indoor Tennis Center on the University of Arkansas campus. The Hurricane improves to a 3-0 record on the season, while Saint Louis to 0-2 on the year.
Tulsa picked up the doubles point with dominating play at all three positions. Alexandra Kichoutkin and Marta Marcinkowska defeated Hailee Elmore and Casey Miller, 8-4, in the No. 1 slot, and Anastasia Erofeeva and Jie Zeng topped Sarah Septien and Kasia Tomalak, 8-1, in the No. 2 position. Thalia Diaz-Barriga and Ewa Szatkowska swept Joe Becker and Caitlin McKenna, 8-0, at the third position.
The Hurricane continued their dominance in singles play by winning all six singles matches without dropping a single set. Alexandra Kichoutkin defeated Hailee Elmore, 7-5, 6-1, in the No. 1 position, while Thalia Diaz-Barriga beat Casey Miller, 6-0, 6-1, in the second slot.
"I thought Thalia Diaz-Barriga played extremely well," said Head Coach Dean Orford. "She played a very clean match in singles and won 8-0 in doubles. She was outstanding today."
The 7-0 win marks the third consecutive sweep for Tulsa this season. The Hurricane opened the season with a 7-0 win over Arkansas-Little Rock followed by a 4-0 victory against Oral Roberts.
