McAlester Tornado Victims Sift Through Damage

A twister in McAlester on Saturday was on the ground for at least 15 minutes in mostly rural areas before reaching town.

Storm trackers say the twister destroyed outbuildings and damaged some homes in the small town of Haywood, just west of McAlester.

Meteorologist Katie Green was in McAlester and reported heavy damage. Several homes were destroyed. Families are salvaging what they can, but there is little that can be saved.

Two mobile homes were picked up in the tornado. Crews were in search of them.

Only minor injuries have been reported.
